Course Overview
Allergic reactions in children are more common than many people realise, and the school environment carries real risk — shared snacks, celebrations, cooking lessons, trips and clubs. In an emergency, the adult who matters most is the one closest to the child, which is why allergy awareness can’t sit with the first aider alone.
This online course gives every member of school staff the knowledge and confidence to keep pupils with allergies safe. Over around 75 minutes of short, focused videos, you’ll learn what allergies and anaphylaxis are, how to recognise a reaction, the immediate steps to take in an emergency, how to use an adrenaline auto-injector, and what the new statutory guidance — widely known as Benedict’s Law — will require of schools from September 2026.
No medical background is needed. The course is designed for teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, lunchtime supervisors, caretakers and senior leaders alike. Work through it at your own pace, test your understanding with a short quiz at the end of each module, and earn a certificate on completion.
This training reflects the proposed statutory guidance and will be updated as the final Department for Education version is confirmed.
